The history of Apple iPhones

The history of Apple iPhones

Each year we seem to get a new iPhone  that is slimmer, faster, sleeker etc. But what are the main differences?
This is a very brief article based on each model and its attributes. We will be doing a posts on each iPhone.

Steve Jobs, then CEO at Apple Inc., conceived an idea of using a multi-touch touchscreen to interact with a computer in a way in which he could type directly onto the display, essentially removing the physical keyboard and mouse, the same as a tablet computer. Jobs recruited a group of Apple engineers to investigate the idea as a side project. When Jobs reviewed the prototype and its user interface, he conceived a second idea of implementing the technology onto a mobile phone. The whole effort was called Project Purple 2 and began in 2005.

Apple iPhone (Original/1st Gen

The original iPhone (1st Gen) is a handheld device combining mobile phone, iPod, and Internet communications functionality. It is a Quad-band GSM capable phone -- 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz -- and features a 3.5" display with 320x480 resolution at 163 ppi, 4 GB, 8 GB, or 16 GB of flash memory (4 GB model discontinued September 5, 2007, 16 GB model introduced February 5, 2008), built-in support for Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), EDGE, and Bluetooth 2.0, as well as an integrated 2.0 megapixel camera all packed in a stylish case a mere 0.46 of an inch thick that weighs 4.0 ounces.

So back on January 9th 2007 Steve Jobs announced the very first Apple iPhone to which a 4GB would cost $499 (£312) and 8GB for $599 (£374). These went on sale in the US on June 29 2007 then to the rest of the world a few months later. It was to become the start of a new era of mobile phones. Funnily enough I had to look up the actual official name given to this phone as I thought it was just called the iPhone Original. The Apple iPhone 2G was a great phone. But was not ready for those who are blind or visually impaired.

Next came theApple iPhone 3G  in July 11th 2008 which was pretty much a year after the 2G with a more original Apple look to it, rather than the 2G that had a typical mobile phone back case to it. The 3G would be an all in one sleeker look with the only major difference in appearance being the back of it. This was a full plastic back rather than the metal back that helps increase the GSM signal.

Another year later on June 8th 2009 they announced the arrival of theApple iPhone 3GS. As you can see the image below both the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS look exactly the same. Well you’d be right, there is in fact no difference. The only difference is in the actual phone itself. Internally it has a significantly faster processor with twice as much RAM, improved camera, built in digital compass for Google Maps, better battery life and the list goes on. Below you can see the stylish (at the time) AeApple iPhone 3GS

February 3rd 2011 the new Apple iPhone 4 was available to order. Surprisingly took a bit longer than a year for Apple to bring this one out but it was a massive difference from the iPhone 3GS. Not only does it look more sleek (my opinion) but it has a higher resolution to make watching films more pretty, it has a front camera for video chat or just taking pictures of yourself, both cameras are better quality and are HD, twice as much RAM, faster processor ad longer battery life. Below you can see the stylish (at the time) Apple iPhone 4

Only 8 months later they brought out the Apple iPhone 4S in October 2011. Rumors had it that the iPhone 4S was named after Steve Jobs when he died to resemble iPhone 4Steve but Apple never confirmed this and passed it off as a coincidence. Loads of internal updates to make it run faster again but this time it comes with Siri, which is a voice activated control option that can search, txt and browse for you. (The below image is literally the only correct image of the iPhone 4S I could find. Then September 2012 came around and they gave us the Apple iPhone 5. Significantly lighter than the 4 & 4S and has a bigger screen that now fits another line of apps in the menus. Again the hardware is upgraded to make it fun faster etc. Below you can see the stylish (at the time) Apple iPhone 5
